Bucharest International Airport – Henri Coandă is the main airport serving Romania’s capital Bucharest and it is also the largest airport in the country. Since 2004 the airport has been named after Henri Coandă, a Romanian inventor and builder of the world’s first jet, the Coandă-1910.
Flight Connections At Bucharest International Airport
Bucharest International Airport is connected with direct flights to around 10 domestic and more than 100 international destinations around Europe and the Middle East. It is also the main hub for Romania’s national flag carrier TAROM, which offers both domestic and international flights. Budget airlines Wizz Air, Ryanair, and HiSky also use the airport as a hub with flights to many European destinations.

Facilities At Bucharest International Airport
Bucharest International Airport has one terminal building, which is split up between the arrivals and departures sections. On the air side there is a split between the domestic area and the area for international flights.
Free WiFi is available throughout the entire airport while smoking is prohibited everywhere, except for the designated smoking areas.
Prepaid simcards and data packages can be bought from the Relay store in the passageway between the arrivals and departures hall. Mobile phone top-ups are available there as well, but can also be bought at the post office and at the SELFPAY point inside the Carrefour supermarket (both located in the arrivals hall).
Banks and currency exchanges can be found in the passageway between the arrivals and departures hall (landside). More money exchange offices can be found in the departures area (before security) and in the departures and arrivals halls. ATMs can be found in the arrivals hall and in the passageway between the arrivals and departures halls.
When it comes to food and drinks there are many options at the airport. On the landside (before security), there are several coffee bars and restaurants on the ground floor and on the first floor. After the security checks there are also plenty of options from coffee shops to fast food and fine dining restaurants on the international departures side. The domestic departures terminal has limited options.
Both the domestic and international departures areas have a variety of tax-free and other shops. There are also a few shops in the baggage area of the arrivals hall and on the landside (public area).
For for qualifying travelers, two lounges are available in the international departure hall (behind security) of Bucharest International Airport: the TAROM Business Lounge and the VIP Lounge. There is no lounge in the domestic departures area.
Getting To And From Bucharest International Airport
Bucharest International Airport is located 16.5 kilometers north of the center of Bucharest and can be easily reached by train, bus, taxi, private transfer, or (rental) car.
By Train
Bucharest Airport has a direct train connection with Bucharest North Train Station, which is connected to the metro network via lines M1 and M4. The trains run 24/7 with up to 3 departures per hour during the day and the journey time is approximately 20-25 minutes. The route is two railway companies, CFR Călători and Transferoviar Călători. Single journey tickets are 5 lei and can be bought on-board the train in cash or by card. To get to the train station, just follow the signs from the arrivals hall to reach the train station on the other side of the parking lot.
By Metro
There is currently no metro station at the airport, but plans are on its way to connect the airport by metro with Bucharest North Train Station. This new metro line 6 is expected to be completed by 2027-2030.
By Bus
Express bus line 783 connects the airport with Union Square (Piața Unirii) in the center of Bucharest, from where you can take the metro lines M1, M2, and M3. The bus runs 24/7 and departs several times per hour during the day, and hourly during the night. The actual schedule can be found on the website of the bus company STB or via the mobile app ‘Info Transport Bucharest’. Be aware that the journey time depends on the traffic and it takes longer to get into town during rush hours. The airport bus stop is on the ground floor, one floor down from the arrivals hall which is on level 1. You have to buy your ticket at the white ticket booth next to the bus stop as you can’t but tickets from the bus driver.
By Taxi
The official taxi stand with licenced and metered taxis can be found in front of the exit of the arrivals hall. Be aware that unsolicited taxi offers and taxis parked elswhere are not licenced and prohibited to prevent scams. We recommend to only use official taxis who turn on the meter as in almost all other cases you will pay too much. The official taxi companies operating at the airport charge between 2.50-3.50 lei per kilometer. If you want to use a specific taxi company, you can order one from the taxi ordering machines in the arrivals hall, which also indicate the price per kilometer. Simply tap the screen to order one and get a coupon and wait outside for your taxi to pick you up. Again, make sure the meter is turned on.
By Ridesharing Apps
Ridesharing apps Uber and Bolt are also available for pickup at the airport but drivers are not allowed to enter the taxi ranks. There is a dedicated ridesharing parking at the upper level of the main car park in front of the arrivals terminal. Simply follow the signs for the “Ridesharing Pickup Point” from the arrivals hall.
By Private Transfer
You can also pre-book a private transfer to your hotel online, so you can skip the taxi queue at the airport as a dedicated driver will be waiting for you with a sign with your name in the arrivals hall. This is the most convenient way as you won’t have to worry about getting cash and wait for a taxi to be available during the busy summer months.
By Car
Bucharest International Airport is directly connected to the national road DN1 via which it can be easily reached by car.
Parking At Bucharest International Airport
Several parking lots are available at Bucharest International Airport so it’s good to know upfront which parking lot to use. P1 is located in front of the departure hall and charges 10 lei per half hour. P2 is located in front of the arrivals hall and also charges 10 lei per half hour. P3, P4, and P5 are meant for long-term parking and charge 100 lei per 24 hours for the first 4 days, and 10 lei per day from the 5th day onwards.
