Tulcea County is one of the 41 counties (județe) of Romania. It is located in the South-East development region and is part of the historical region of Dobrogea. Tulcea borders Ukraine, the Black Sea, and the other Romanian counties of Galați, Brăila, and Constanța. The namesake city of Tulcea is the largest city and capital of Tulcea County.
Weather & Climate
Tulcea County offers a unique climatic blend, heavily influenced by the vast water surfaces of the Danube Delta and the Black Sea. This creates a temperate climate with high humidity and significant seasonal character, distinct from the rest of the country.
Summer is hot and sunny, particularly in the Delta, where temperatures frequently climb to 28°C to 32°C. The proximity to water provides a constant breeze, helping to mitigate the intense afternoon heat. Evenings remain warm and humid, usually settling around 18°C to 20°C.
Spring and Autumn are the most popular times for nature observation. Spring arrives early in April, with temperatures quickly reaching a comfortable 20°C to 22°C by May. Autumn is long and mild; September remains warm with averages of 24°C, while October offers a serene, golden atmosphere with daytime highs around 16°C.
Winter is cold, with strong winds frequently sweeping across the open plains and waterways, which can make the air feel colder than the thermometer suggests. Daytime temperatures typically hover between 1°C and 4°C, with nighttime lows often dipping to -5°C or lower, creating a stark, quiet landscape.
