Oltenia, also known as Lesser Wallachia, is a historical region of Romania situated between the Danube River, the Carpathian Mountains, and the Olt River. The Olt was the border between Oltenia and Muntenia, which together formed Wallachia and united with Moldavia in 1859 to form Modern Romania.
Nowadays, Oltenia consists of the counties Gorj and Dolj, most of Mehedinț, part of Vâlcea and Olt, and a tiny part of Teleorman.
