The Vaslui Trade Unions’ House of Culture – Constantin Tănase (Casa de Cultură a Sindicatelor „Constantin Tănase” Vaslui) is a cultural venue on Civic Square in central Vaslui, built as part of the city’s post-1968 civic-center redevelopment. Designed by architect Emilia Popescu, the building was completed in 1971 and inaugurated the following year during the second edition of the Constantin Tănase Humor Festival, named after the Vaslui-born actor and comedian.
The new venue was created as a purpose-built trade-union house of culture, with a large performance hall and additional spaces for rehearsals, clubs and cultural activities. Its main auditorium has around 575 seats, and the building became one of the main venues for the biennial humor festival, which had first been held in Vaslui in 1970.
The building stands on the northern side of the square and forms part of the same early-1970s ensemble as the Administrative Palace and surrounding public spaces. Its long, horizontal façade and simple geometric forms are characteristic of the period, while the cultural activity inside gave the otherwise administrative center an important public function. A bust of Constantin Tănase by sculptor Marcel Guguianu stands in front of the building.
