The Vaslui Palace of Justice (Palatul de JustiÈ›ie Vaslui) is a historic courthouse on Independence Square in central Vaslui, built between 1891 and 1897 as the city’s Administrative and Justice Palace. The original design is attributed to architect Filip Xenopol, who was already known for administrative palaces in Bacău, Bârlad and Brăila.
The building initially combined judicial and administrative functions, and from 1923 it also housed the Prefecture of Vaslui County. After the administrative reorganization of 1950, it passed to local communist authorities and was used by the raion and city administration. It returned to the Ministry of Justice in 1974, when repairs allowed judicial institutions to move back into the building.
Built of brick on stone foundations, the palace has an eclectic design dominated by neoclassical elements. Its symmetrical façades, projecting central sections, tall windows and restrained classical decoration give it the formal appearance expected of a late-19th-century public building. Some of the original timber floors were replaced with reinforced concrete after the 1940 earthquake, while later earthquakes in 1977 and 1986 caused further structural damage.
The Vaslui Tribunal moved to a new courthouse on Ștefan cel Mare Street in 2007, while the historic palace continued to serve the local court. A major restoration and structural consolidation in the 2020s repaired the building and restored its historic façades and interiors.
