The Cathedral of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel (Catedrala Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil) is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the Traian area of Vaslui, built between 2005 and 2024. Designed by architect Florin Mugur Popa, it became the cathedral of the municipality when it was consecrated in November 2024.
The parish was established after the municipality provided land for a new church in 1997, responding to the growth of the surrounding residential area. The site was consecrated the following year, and a small chapel opened in 1999 while plans for the main church were prepared. Construction began on 27 July 2005, with Adrian and Viorica Porumboiu serving as the principal founders and supporters of the project.
The cathedral follows a trilobed plan inspired by Moldavian church architecture and measures about 28 meters long and 13.5 meters wide. A bell tower rises above the entrance porch, while additional octagonal towers crown the nave and pronaos. The façades are articulated with rows of arches, small niches beneath the cornice and decorative brickwork, while the base is faced with stone. Four bronze bells cast in Innsbruck were installed in 2008, followed by stainless-steel crosses for the towers in 2009.
After almost two decades of construction and interior work, the church was consecrated on 10 November 2024 and granted the status of Cathedral of the Municipality of Vaslui.
