9 May Market (Piața 9 Mai) is a large daily market in Bârlad, used for fresh food, household goods and other everyday shopping. Fruit and vegetables are sold from outdoor stalls, while separate sections are used for dairy products, meat, flowers and other foods.
The market also includes smaller traders selling goods such as seeds, honey, household items, ceramics and other manufactured products, together with a flea-market section and areas for live poultry. Its mix of food producers, resellers and small traders makes it an interesting place to see the everyday commercial life of the city and to look for seasonal produce from the surrounding region.
The market has also hosted seasonal events such as Bârlad’s autumn festival, when local fruit and vegetables, food, must and traditional crafts are sold alongside music and other public activities.
