The Piarist Church (Biserica Piarist), officially named the Piarist Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Biserica Înălțarea Sfintei Cruci Piaristă) is located opposite the Anton von Scudier Central Park on King Ferdinand I Boulevard in Timișoara.
The church was built together with a school by the Piarist monks between 1908 and 1909 on the site of an earlier 18th-century Franciscan church. The new church was dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and its architectural styles can be described as Eclectic and Secession with neo-Byzantine elements. Some Baroque elements in its interior were retained from the old Franciscan church. The church’s tower has a conical roof that is flanked by two false buttresses. The altar was brought from Munich, Germany.
Contrary to other churches, the Piarists were able to continue their activities throughout the communist times because this church was considered a students’ church, due to its connection with its adjacent Piarist School.
