The Church of the Holy Forty Martyrs (Biserica Sfinții 40 de Mucenici) is a Romanian Orthodox church in Cisnădioara, Sibiu County. Construction began in 1999 to provide the village with a permanent Orthodox place of worship, and the church was consecrated in 2024 after a long period of gradual building and interior decoration.
The project was started by priests Ciprian and Gheorghe Gașpar, father and son, and continued by later parish priests after Ciprian Gașpar died. Work progressed in stages over many years, reflecting the small size of the local Orthodox community and the resources available to the parish.
The church was dedicated to the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste and developed as the main Orthodox parish church of Cisnădioara. Its interior was progressively decorated with Orthodox wall painting, while the altar and icons were formally consecrated during the 2024 service led by the Metropolitan of Transylvania.
Today the church serves the Orthodox community of the village and stands as a modern religious counterpart to the much older Lutheran churches that reflect Cisnădioara’s Saxon past.
