Lipovan Church (Biserica Lipovenească) is a Russian Orthodox Old Rite church in Piatra Neamț, dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Its distinctive Russian-style domes rise above the former Lipovan neighborhood near the Bistrița River. The present church was completed in 2012, replacing an earlier building destroyed by fire.
The local community of Russian Old Believers, also known as Lipovans, established its first wooden church here in the early 19th century. The surrounding neighborhood became known as the Lipovan Quarter (Mahalaua Lipovenilor), where the community maintained its religious practices following the old Russian Orthodox rites. The original church was destroyed by fire shortly after the First World War and replaced by a new building consecrated in 1924.
A second devastating fire broke out on February 29, 2008, destroying the roof, iconostasis, altar, and numerous religious objects, including old icons and liturgical books. With support from the local community and municipal authorities, the church was rebuilt and consecrated in 2012. Its exterior features several colorful, bulbous domes inspired by Russian Orthodox church architecture.
