The Joseph Haltrich High School (Liceul Teoretic Joseph Haltrich), also called the School on the Hill (Școala din Deal), is a high school located in the upper part of the old town of Sighișoara.
The school was founded in 1522 and is one of the oldest schools in Transylvania. The current building of the school was constructed on “School Hill” in 1619. To keep the school accessible during severe weather and snow, the Scholars’ Stairs were built in 1642, connecting the school with the lower part of the city. In 1901 the main school building was rebuilt and an extra floor was added.
