The Miercurea Ciuc Trade Unions’ House of Culture (Casa de Cultură a Sindicatelor) is a cultural center and performance venue on Liberty Square in Miercurea Ciuc. Completed in 1986, it hosts theater productions, concerts, dance performances, exhibitions, and other public events.
The House of Culture was developed during the reconstruction of central Miercurea Ciuc in the 1980s, when older buildings were demolished to make way for Liberty Square and the surrounding administrative and cultural complex. The trade-union cultural institution was established in 1984, with its new premises completed two years later. During the communist period, it provided facilities for amateur artistic groups, educational courses, exhibitions, conferences, and professional performances, serving both workers and the wider public.
The building was designed to accommodate several types of cultural activity. Its main auditorium, originally recorded with a capacity of 724 seats, was used for theatrical productions, concerts, and larger gatherings. The Marble Hall (Sala de Marmură) provided space for art exhibitions, book presentations, and meetings, while additional rooms were available for clubs, courses, and cultural organizations. Parts of the complex also accommodated public library activities.
After 1989, the House of Culture continued to host performances and public events as the organization of cultural activities in the city changed. The building subsequently came under municipal administration, with the Pro Cultura Siculi association taking responsibility for its management in 2016. Its program includes touring theater productions, opera and operetta, orchestral concerts, folk dance, children’s performances, and cultural gatherings. The venue also accommodates exhibitions and smaller-scale activities outside its main auditorium.
