The Lábas House (Casa Lábas) is a historic building in Miercurea Ciuc, constructed in 1786 as the headquarters of the senior officers of the First Szekler Border Guard Regiment. Over the following centuries, it served several different purposes, including as a courthouse, furniture factory, residence, and hospital.
The building served the border guard regiment until the early 19th century. After Miercurea Ciuc became the administrative center of Ciuc County in 1876, the judicial authorities were transferred from Șumuleu Ciuc to the town. In 1887, the tribunal moved into Lábas House, where it operated until relocating to the newly constructed Palace of Justice in 1905.
Between 1904 and 1921, the building was used as a furniture factory before being converted into residential accommodation. In 1942, it became a maternity hospital, prompting the construction of an additional wing financed by the Ciuc Private Estates Association. The building subsequently accommodated other medical services and now houses the ear, nose, and throat department of Harghita County Hospital.
Lábas House was designed in a restrained neoclassical style, with a symmetrical facade centered on an arched entrance portico. The portico is crowned by a triangular pediment, while rusticated masonry decorates the corners of the building and the arches of the entrance. The windows have simple geometric surrounds and white-painted wooden frames, giving the historic facade an orderly, understated appearance.
