The Zafiratos House (Casa Zafiratos) is a historic early 20th-century residence in Galați, built for the Greek landowning family of Haralambie and Sofia Zafiratos. The house belongs to the group of substantial bourgeois residences that developed along Mihai Bravu during one of the city’s most prosperous periods.
The Zafiratos family owned agricultural land in Cahul, Covurlui and Tutova counties together with several properties in Galați. Haralambie Zafiratos was also active in business, and an 1881 newspaper advertisement records a macaroni factory operating under the family name, indicating that their commercial activity in the city stretched back several decades before the house was built.
Designed in a Neoclassical style, the residence is arranged around a central hall lit from above by a skylight. The main rooms open from this space, while a separate passage leads toward the service wing. Some of the original tiled stoves survive inside, and the central hall retains raised vegetal decoration.
Most of the exterior ornament is concentrated around the windows of the street façade, where stucco decoration combines vegetal and human motifs. A prominent pediment above the central group of windows includes the initial of the Zafiratos family, giving the otherwise restrained façade its most distinctive detail.
