The Serfioti House (Casa Serfioti) is a historic 19th-century residence in central Galați, built in 1867 for physician Aristide Serfioti. Designed by architect Oscar Schwab, the house combines Neoclassical proportions with Renaissance-inspired decorative details.
Serfioti commissioned the residence at a time when Strada Domnească was developing into one of Galați’s most prestigious streets. The original arrangement placed service and dining rooms on the ground floor, while the upper level contained bedrooms, a study, salon, and other private rooms connected by an internal staircase.
The façade is distinguished by a projecting balcony supported by female atlantes and decorated with pierced rosettes. Two niches on the upper floor contain classical female statues, while pediments, friezes, acroteria, and horizontal rustication add further ornament to the composition.
Around 1898, Serfioti sold the house to lawyer N.N. Dariu. After nationalization, it was used by several public institutions, including the County Committee for Culture and Socialist Education and the civil registry. After 1990 it served as the headquarters of the Democratic Party, before being returned to Dariu’s heirs in 2001 and later sold into private ownership.
