The Rusănescu House (Casa Rusănescu) is a historic mansion built around 1890 for the Rusănescu family in central Craiova. Also known as the House of Marriages (Casa Căsătoriilor), it stands at the intersection of Calea Unirii and Știrbei Vodă Boulevard. Its French Neoclassical architecture is distinguished by richly ornamented façades, an enclosed balcony above the entrance, and a domed corner roof crowned by a lantern.
The residence belonged to Ștefan D. Rusănescu, a member of a landowning family from Oltenia. During the early 20th century, the house hosted political meetings attended by prominent figures including Take Ionescu, Vasile Lucaciu, Octavian Goga, and Nicolae Titulescu, who participated in the movement for Romanian national unity. Inside, the mansion was decorated with elaborate plasterwork, painted ceilings, mirrors, and a stained-glass skylight above the main staircase.
Following nationalization during the communist period, the building was divided into residences and commercial premises before being used by the regional railway administration. After 1990, it housed the administrative headquarters of the Universitatea Craiova football club. The municipality subsequently converted it into the House of Marriages, accommodating the civil registry and a ceremonial hall for weddings. Restoration work in 1999 repaired several of its historic interior decorations.
After serving as Craiova’s House of Marriages, the building became the subject of a municipal restoration project intended to convert it into a museum dedicated to prominent personalities from the city’s history.
