The Enchanted Castle (Castelul Fermecat) is an architectural highlight in the Nicolae Romanescu Park in Craiova, Dolj County. It is located near the Suspension Bridge over the artificial lake.
The monumental building is not a real castle, but in fact a water tower. It was built in 1905, when the park was opened to the public, to hide the water tower and turn it into peace of beauty that compliments the romantic style of the park, hence its name ‘Enchanted Castle’.
Under the communist regime, the building was transformed into a restaurant with outdoor seating, so nowadays you can enjoy the beautiful views under the shades of the trees.
