The Students’ Cultural House Dumitru Fărcaș (Casa de Cultură a Studenților Dumitru Fărcaș) is a cultural, arts, and entertainment center on Piața Lucian Blaga in Cluj-Napoca.
In 1921 the students of Cluj expressed their wish for a house of culture in a local newspaper. In 1956 their wish was fulfilled when it was decided that students’ associations for cultural activities would be established in all universities and a house of culture would be established for students.
At first, the students organized cultural, arts, and entertainment events in spaces provided by the different institutes of higher education. Between 1957 and 1959 several artistic groups were created, for example for folk, jazz, pop music, modern dance, photography, and cinematography. The groups were coached by teachers and artists and developed their repertoire to be able to present themselves for the first time at local and national festivals.
After adequate funding was allocated, a dedicated building was constructed, which opened its doors in 1960. The Students’ Cultural House was later named after Dumitru Fărcaș, a taragot player who became the leader of the “Mărțișorul” orchestra from 1962, which won many national and international awards.
