The Matthias Corvinus House (Casa Matia) is one of the oldest buildings in Cluj-Napoca and also the house where Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary, was born.
The house was built in the 15th century in a Gothic style and was initially owned by the Saxon patrician Stefan Kolb. Later John Hunyadi lived there when his son Matthias was born on February 23, 1443. Matthias, who later adopted the name Corvinus, went on to become one of the most renowned kings of Hungary. You can also find the Matthias Corvinus Statue on Union Square.
The house was later used for various purposes, including as a jail, a hospital, and a museum. Since 1950 it has been owned and used by the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca.
