Youth Park (Parcul Tineretului) is a large public park in northern Buzău, with lakes, walking paths, sports facilities, and recreational areas. Developed during the 1970s and 1980s, it is one of the city’s main green spaces, combining landscaped areas with facilities for outdoor activities.
The park was established in 1973 on the site of a former fish farm and near the city’s old slaughterhouse. Its development began with the creation of a recreational lake, paths, and planted areas, with much of the initial work carried out by local students and workers. A stage for outdoor performances, sports grounds, and amusement facilities followed in 1975. The recreational complex gradually expanded with the addition of a swimming pool, the Sports Hall in 1982, and the House of Science and Technology for Youth in 1984.
The park’s landscape is dominated by two interconnected lakes, bordered by trees, grassy areas, and paths. Reed beds along the water attract aquatic birds, while the lakes are also used for recreational fishing. Other facilities include children’s playgrounds, sports courts, table tennis areas, and a large paved track for cycling and roller skating. A small island and a landing stage for pedal boats are among the features of the lakeside recreational area.
Scattered throughout the park are numerous stone sculptures, alongside a a bronze statue of the Romanian composer George Enescu, created by sculptor Oscar Han and installed in 1973. The park also has open spaces for outdoor events and seasonal recreational activities.
