The Odeon Theater (Teatrul Odeon) is a performing arts theater and a historic landmark on Victory Avenue in central Bucharest.
The theater building was constructed in 1911 to house the Comedy Theater of the Romanian National Theater. Since 1974, it housed the Teatrul Muncitoresc CFR GiuleÈ™ti (the railway worker’s theater) founded in 1946. In 1990, the name GiuleÈ™ti was changed to Odeon.
The theater is part of a building complex that also includes apartments, shops, and a hotel. The architect was Grigore Cerchez. The theater has two venues: the Majestic Hall with a capacity of 300 seats, and the multifunctional Studio Hall. Plays are in the Romanian language, but subtitles are offered for foreign spectators.
In front of the Odeon Theater stands a buste of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881-1938), former president of Turkey.
