Obor Market (PiaÈ›a Obor) is one of the largest and most popular markets in Bucharest, located along Strada Ziduri MoÈ™i in the Obor neighborhood. The market can be reached by metro and tram. The ‘PiaÈ›a Obor’ tram stop is right next to Obor Market, and the M1 metro station ‘Obor’ is about a 5-minute walk.
The history of the Obor Market goes back centuries as the location has been a marketplace for local farmers and vendors since the 18th century. Back then, the location was on the outskirts of the city and the so-called Târgul Moșilor was held twice a week. It was also a place for public hangings.
Nowadays, the Obor Market is open daily and consists of multiple indoor halls surrounded by many outdoor stalls with a bustling atmosphere that is absolutely worth a visit. If you have to pick one local market to visit during your stay, you should definitely go to Obor Market.
The modern hall on Strada Ziduri Moși consists of two levels. On the ground floor is the wet market with fruit, vegetables, and other locally grown products. Upstairs are specialty shops, like butchers, fish shops, bakeries, cheese shops, and a wine shop. In the other hall called Halele Centrale Obor and on the surrounding streets, you can find a variety of products, including food and other groceries, household items, clothing, flowers, and many other things. There is also a third hall called the Piața de Pește, where you can buy all sorts of fish and seafood.
Opposite the fish hall, there’s also the Veranda Mall, a large modern shopping mall with international brands, a hypermarket, a cinema, and several restaurants.
