The New Saint Eleftherius Church (Biserica Sfântul Elefterie Nou) is a Romanian Orthodox church near Heroes Park (Parcul Eroilor) in the Cotroceni district of Bucharest.
Near the location of the current church there used to be an island in the Dâmbovița River. On the island, a village was built around the heritage of Saint Eleftherius, which started with the construction of a church dedicated to the saint in 1743-1744. It was one of the most beautiful areas of the city with lots of greenery and it was often visited by the people from Bucharest.
When the Dâmbovița River was straightened the island disappeared. The city started to expand to the east with the construction of the Cotroceni neighborhood, which started to rapidly develop after the First World War. This also meant that the number of parishioners was growing and the old church became too small.
On 9 April 1934, it was decided to build a new church and the foundation stone was laid on 29 June 1935. The church was designed by the architect Constantin Iotzu and for its construction donations were collected from citizens and from the Bucharest City Hall. The construction took a total of 36 years and the consecration took place on 29 June 1971.
The church is built on a cross-shaped plan and measures a length of 36 meters and a width of 25 meters. The appearance of the church is very similar the Cașin Church which was built around the same time.
