The Lady Ghica’s Linden Tree Church (Biserica Teiul Doamnei Ghica) is a Romanian Orthodox church in the Plumbuita Park in the north of Bucharest. The church is dedicated to the Feast of the Ascension.
According to the inscription on the pisanie of the church, an earlier church stood on the circle in front of it in the 18th century. The current church was built by the Wallachian Prince Grigore Dimitrie Ghica in 1833. After its sanctification by Grigorie III, Metropolitan of Ungro-Wallachia, it became the chapel of the neighboring Ghica Tei Palace built by the same prince. Restorations of the church took place in 1894 and after the earthquakes of 1940 and 1977.
The church’s style can be described as Italian Neoclassical and it is built on a slightly elliptical plan with a length of 18 meters, and a width of 13 meters. It has a large vaulted cupola on a round dome with eight windows. The main entrance is preceded by a small portico with four Doric columns supporting a triangular pediment. The facades of the church are decorated with Doric pilasters, which are also present in the interior. Oil paintings in a Byzantine Revival style can be observed on the inside, one of which is a portrait of the founder, Prince Ghika, on the left of the entrance, and another of his son on the right. The wooden iconostasis is carved in a Viennese Baroque style.
Around the church are the graves of the Ghika family members. At the back of the church, towards the lake, there is a massive square-shaped bell tower, which is decorated with Ionic pilasters.
