Colţea Hospital (Spitalul Colțea) is the oldest hospital in Bucharest, located next to University Square (Piața Universității) on Bulevardul Ion C. Brătianu.
Colţea Hospital was first built in 1704 as part of the Colţea Monastery, which included the Colței Church and several other buildings but it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1802. The current neo-classical building was built in 1888 and recently underwent an exterior renovation making the façade look fabulous again. It was not only the first hospital in Bucharest but also one of the first bases for medical education in Romania.
Although it is an important and beautiful landmark of the city, remember that it is also still operating as a hospital today so sightseeing should be done from the outside only. In front of the U-shaped building is also a garden where you can find the Colței Church.
