The Church of the Holy Voivodes (Biserica Sfinții Voievozi) is a Romanian Orthodox church on Calea Griviței in Bucharest. The church is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gebriel, the Dormition of the Mother God, and Saint Nicholas.
The history of the church goes back to the 18th century, when a first church was built of wood in by Mihalcea Băcanul. The growing population in the area increased the need for a bigger place of worship so in 1817 a new church was built of brick. The new church was a small settlements with monastic cells, houses and shops, but due to the passage of time, the constructions deteriorated requiring a complete restoration.
In 1903, the church was almost completely rebuilt with new decorative paintings on the inside and outside. The reconstruction plans were based on the model of the church of the Monastery of Curtea de ArgeÈ™ with a flattened nave, an enlarged pronaos, a central spire, and two side spires.
In the following century, several restoration works were carried out on the church, especially after both World Wars and the earthquake of 1940.
