The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul (Biserica Sfinții Apostoli Petru și Pavel) is a Romanian Orthodox church near United Nations Square in central Bucharest.
The history of the church goes back to the second half of the 16th century when a wooden church was built on its location. During the reign of Prince Matei Basarab (1632-1654) a new church was built from stone in its place, and under the reign of Ștefan Cantacuzino (1714-1716), a bell tower and portico were added. Inscriptions confirming these events, as well as portraits of the Basarab and Cantacuzino families and coats of arms, are preserved on the church wall.
Over time, the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul has undergone many restorations and modifications, including after the earthquakes of 1802, 1838, 1940, and 1977. The church is built on a cross-shaped plan and measures a length of 27.4 meters, a width of 7 meters with very thick walls of 1.4 to 1.8 meters. The church has a single dome above the nave and a bell tower above the narthex, which are both made of masonry with large windows. The main entrance of the church is covered by a square portico with stone columns with floral capitals.
