The Ropemakers’ Bastion (Bastionul Funarilor) in Brașov is part of the remains of the fortifications of the medieval city. The bastion is located on the southern side of the old town, just north of Tampa Hill.
The hexagonal building was built in 1416 and measures walls of 2 meters thick and a height of 10-12 meters. The bastion suffered severe damage in 1461 and 1689, and after being rebuilt it was used as materials storage. In 1794 a house was built inside the Ropemakers’ Bastion, which is still inhabited today.
