The Irimia House (Casa Irimia), is a historic residence built in 1912 in central Brăila, now used by the private Dr. Luca School. It was commissioned by Gheorghe Eremie, a wealthy landowner and grain merchant, and designed by architect Lazăr I. Predinger.
Eremie owned extensive agricultural land around Stăncuța, south of Brăila, and commissioned a substantial family residence at the corner of two streets. The building has a basement, ground floor, and upper floor, with an elegant rounded corner crowned by an octagonal dome. Its eclectic architecture combines Neoclassical details with Art Nouveau decoration, while the courtyard entrance features a canopy of glass and wrought iron.
Following nationalization in 1950, the residence became a retirement home, a function it retained for several decades. The building also underwent repairs following earthquakes in the late twentieth century.
The property was returned to the Eremie family’s heirs in 2013 and purchased in 2016 by the Muntenia Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which acquired it for educational use. Dr. Luca School moved into the house in 2017, bringing a new function to the former residence. The school subsequently expanded into neighboring premises, allowing the historic house to accommodate classrooms without extensive alterations to its original structure.
