The Gheorghe Gussi House (Casa Gheorghe Gussi) is a Neoclassical residence built in 1892 in central Brăila. It takes its name from Gheorghe Gussi, a wealthy landowner who owned the property in the early twentieth century, although the initials D V on the entrance pediment suggest that it was originally built for someone else.
The single-story house has a symmetrical facade dominated by a projecting entrance portico with classical columns and a triangular pediment. Similar pediments decorate the windows, accompanied by ornamental panels, brackets, and dentils. Inside, painted ceilings, decorative woodwork, cut-glass doors, and a marble staircase give the rooms a more elaborate appearance. A skylight and a Secession-style stove are among its other architectural features.
By 1914, the house belonged to Gheorghe Gussi, whose family owned extensive agricultural estates in Brăila County. His son Leonida later served as county prefect, while Gheorghe’s wife Elena supported local charitable organizations. The property was confiscated by the communist authorities in 1954.
