The Brăila Municipal Stadium (Stadionul Municipal Brăila) is a football and motorcycle speedway stadium in Monument Park in Brăila. Opened in 1974, it served for decades as the home ground of the city’s main football club, Dacia Unirea Brăila, and has also hosted national and international motorcycle racing competitions.
The stadium was built on the site of the former Vasile Roaită Stadium, which was demolished in the early 1970s to make way for a larger arena. Inaugurated on August 21, 1974, the new stadium could accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators. Its design combined a natural-grass football pitch with an oval dirt-track circuit running around it, allowing football matches and motorcycle races to take place in the same venue, using the surrounding grandstands and terraces.
For decades, the stadium hosted Dacia Unirea’s home matches, attracting particularly large crowds when the club competed in Romania’s top division during the early 1990s. Motorcycle speedway racing also became a regular fixture, with the circuit used for Romanian championships and international competitions. Renovations in 2008 and 2012 introduced individual seats to parts of the grandstands, reducing the stadium’s nominal capacity to approximately 20,000 spectators.
Over time, inadequate maintenance led to deterioration of the spectator areas and football facilities, making it increasingly difficult for the stadium to meet the requirements for competitive matches. Dacia Unirea consequently began using other grounds for its home fixtures, although the club also continued to use Municipal Stadium for training. The motorcycle circuit has remained active, hosting national championship races and international events such as the MACEC Cup.
