The Ciulei House (Casa Ciulei) is a 19th-century historic residence in Botoșani that belonged to magistrate Mihail Ciulei, a longtime president of the Botoșani Tribunal who later served as mayor of the city. The house now accommodates the County Forensic Medicine Service.
Mihail Ciulei was born in Botoșani in 1851 and studied law in Paris before returning to Romania and entering the magistracy. He served for many years as president of the Botoșani Tribunal, later practiced as a lawyer, and was elected mayor in 1911. During his mayoralty, the foundation stone of the Mihai Eminescu Theater was laid in 1912.
The residence was built in the 19th century as a substantial urban house and is formed from three connected wings arranged over a basement, ground floor and upper story. Its neoclassical design uses a balanced façade with large windows, decorated pediments and restrained ornamental details around the openings and roofline.
After the Ciulei period, the house passed into public use and served several administrative functions. It was eventually adapted for medical purposes and today houses Botoșani County’s forensic medicine service.
