The Ciomac-Cantemir House (Casa Ciomac-Cantemir) is a historic residence in Botoșani, built around 1800 and later occupied by members of the Ciomac and Cantemir families. It is one of the older surviving urban houses in the city and reflects the domestic architecture of Botoșani’s wealthy merchant and landowning families.
The house first belonged to the Ciomac family, a prominent Armenian family involved in commerce and landownership. It later passed to Gheorghe Cantemir, who served as president of the Botoșani County Council and gave the building the second part of the name by which it is known today.
The residence has a compact rectangular plan with a high ground floor raised above a basement. Its façades are relatively restrained, with evenly spaced windows, simple molded surrounds and a broad hipped roof that emphasizes the horizontal proportions of the building. The interior was organized around a central circulation space with rooms opening from it, following the layout of a substantial urban residence from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
In more recent decades, part of the house has been used to display a collection dedicated to painter Ștefan Luchian. The objects include personal items donated by members of his family, among them an easel, work table, palette, photographs and other memorabilia. Luchian did not live in the house, so the collection represents a later memorial use of the historic residence.
