The Saint George Church (Biserica Sfântul Gheorghe) is the church of the Greek Catholic Theologic Seminary on the bank of the Crișul Repede in Oradea, Bihor County.
The history of the church goes back to the Middle Ages when the Calvinist Church of Saint Egidiu was located in its place. Under Ottoman rule (1660-1692) the church was destroyed. When the city was freed by the Austrians in 1692, the Jesuits settled there and built a new church. When the Greek Catholic Diocese of Oradea was established in 1777, Empress Maria Theresa transferred the church to the Catholics to turn it into a seminary.
In 1847, the church was destroyed and replaced by the current church, which was completed in 1858. The church has a romantic style and is dedicated to the Saint and Great Martyr George. In 1907, the church was renovated and electrified.
In 1948, the post-war communist regime outlawed the Greek Catholic Church and handed the Saint George Church over to the Romanian Orthodox Church. After years of legal battles, the church was handed back to the Greek Catholic Church in 2013.
