The Astoria Grand Hotel is a 4-star hotel located in the historical Sztarill Palace on King Ferdinand I Square, on the corner of Strada Patrioților and Strada Teatrului in Oradea, Bihor County.
The Sztarill Palace was built in 1902 by its owner, the architect Ferenc Sztarill, who also designed the Kolozsváry House and the Poynár House around the same square. The design has a neo-Gothic style with Secession elements, high pediments, and curved contours.
The building had apartments on its upper floors, while the famous EMKE cafe was located on the ground floor. The cafe became a favorite meeting place for writers and journalists, including Ady Endre.
In 1930, the Sztarill Palace was turned into a hotel with the name Astoria Hotel. After World War II, the hotel was closed again and the upper floors became rented apartments again.
After a large renovation, the building was reopened again as a hotel. The hotel is now called the Astoria Grand Hotel and features modern facilities and a restaurant, although the building has kept its charm of the past.
