The Holy Friday Church (Biserica Sfânta Vineri) in Piteşti is a historical and architectural monument, located in the lower part of the city, about 300 meters from the center.
The church was built between 1904 and 1908 to replace an older wooden church from 1817. The construction of the new church was initiated by the priest Ioan Besescu, while the architect Ion N. Socolescu oversaw the design and the renowned construction engineer Dimitrie Dima coordinated the execution of the works. The inner design of the church represents a typical Byzantine compartmentalization with an altar, naos, and pronaos, with an extended plan on the west side, through a porch whose semi-cylindrical vault is supported by six massive columns. Inside you can also find details and artwork in the Brancovenesc and Baroque styles.
Between 2013 and 2015, restoration works took place, which were part of a larger EU-funded project that included the development of the surrounding park and roads.
